This catagorie brings so many unforgetable memories of my grandfather’s gym @ Newtown, “Ern McQuillan senior, O.A.M,” for his services to the “Australian Boxing Industry”, & my numerous visits to “The Sydney Stadium” or “The Old Tin Shed” to wittness so many epic fights, wrestling & entertainment. My grandfather, Ern, worked in partnership with Harry Miller @ “Stadiums Limited” not only to promote fights but also “Wresling”, “Roller Derby” & “Entertainment”. So many experiences @ both these venues I could write a book on this subject alone but thay may be for another day!. This project “EMCP” has been a long journey to arrive at this stage of publishing a digital format of my father’s, “Ern McQuillan, junior, O.A.M”, work.

The below samples are finished with an ebony core off-white matte and a gloss wooden black frame with a gold inner border
Fred Dawson v’s George Barnes,. Art Mawson, ref; @ Sydney Showground, 1953; “World jnr; Welterweight Title” over 15 rounds. Although George lost on points dad informed me that he backed himself to go the distance and won a huge sum of money from a bookie.
Commonwealth Middleweight title, Feb; 1971, over 15 rounds, Tony Mundine v’s Bunny Sterling @ “White City” Sydney. This fight was judged to be a draw, great contest, I was there with pa & dad. Tony won the title in a rematch in April, 1972 @ Milton in Brisbane with a K.O in the 15th round.
The selected photographs bring so many memories of my grandfather, Ern senior, gym in Newtown as well as the many fights that I wittnesed @ the Sydney Stadium. The 1st of the 2 most memorable contest was when Lionel Rose knocked out Rocky Gatterleri in the 13th rond, way back on the 11th December, 1967. The next was on 7th July, 1969 when Johnny Famechon fought Fighting Harada once again @ the Sydney Stadium.
